The Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) program by Fusion Point hosted a Makeathon last October 26th addressed to 27 students from Esade, IED and UPC that had the opportunity to work together at the FabLab Sant Cugat on Esade’s Rambla of Innovation, answering a challenge consisted of building a machine that sorts M&Ms chocolates by colour.
This program is part of ATTRACT Academy, a scale-up of the ‘Young innovators and entrepreneurs’ pilot from phase 1, which aims to generate ideas for social innovation inspired by the technologies developed within the R&D&I projects, as well as to create solutions using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in this case, SDG 3: “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”.
This workshop was meant for students to try out the different possibilities of Digital Fabrication and understand the limits of what can be done in a FabLab, and teamwork under pressure, among others. Furthermore, this helped students to get prepared for their upcoming trip to CERN, where they will prototype their ideas together with coaches at makerspace available at Ideasquare.
It should be noted that the CBI program consortium, coordinated by Esade, aims to identify and relate science and technology to societal challenges and use different approaches to innovation.
