IALL project: team showcases latest advances at the SPIE Photonics West fair

IALL project: team showcases latest advances at the SPIE Photonics West fair 970 545 ATTRACT Project phase 2

The IALL project is one of the 18 R&D&I initiatives funded by ATTRACT phase 2. It focuses on lenses that can be adapted and refocused to any distance at any moment. The research team showcased these lenses, along with two demos they have been developing, at the SPIE Photonics West fair held in California on January 30th.

During the event, the team was invited to give a talk to introduce the latest results of the project, which include the development of lenses using dual-frequency materials, the use of the lenses in zoom systems and dynamic achromatic image capture. This opportunity allowed them to demonstrate the scope and impact of the IALL project in a new context.

“This kind of event, where industry and academia meet, is essential for the transfer of technology. We have met with a handful of companies that have shown sincere interest in our lenses and have shown them our demo -let´s see what comes out of it in the end”, remarked Morten Geday, Associated Professor of the Polytechnical University of Madrid (UPM) and coordinator of the IALL project.

The IALL project is led by the UPM in collaboration with ADTelecom, a specialized SME responsible for designing all the electronics that operate the lenses. The project aims to create a system where lenses are integrated with a camera and a microcontroller. This system will manage both the lens configuration and image capture, paving the way for its application in machine vision units in microscopes or surveillance systems.

SPIE Photonics West is renowned for being the largest science fair dedicated to lasers, biomedical optics, biophotonic technologies, quantum, and optoelectronics which gathers academics and professionals from the industry, eager to engage in discussions and participate in conferences and courses related to these fields.
