The deep-tech startup SCALE Nanotech has recently announced the launch of its spin-out Dragon Elements, marking a significant step toward reshaping the Extended Reality (XR) and wearable electronics industries. Based in Spain, Dragon Elements is introducing LATIDO® capsules, a graphene-based technology designed to eliminate the need for traditional screens and speakers. This development builds upon some of the findings of the MEGAMORPH consortium, funded under the ATTRACT initiative.
LATIDO®, derived from the Spanish word for “heartbeat,” represents a radical shift in audiovisual technology. Instead of relying on separate components for sound and vision, this innovation uses millions of one-atom-thick graphene membranes to seamlessly control light and sound within a single monolithic device. By integrating these capabilities into a unified platform, LATIDO® challenges conventional approaches to digital interaction and offers new possibilities for XR and wearable applications.
Santiago Cartamil, CEO of Dragon Elements and coordinator of MEGAMORPH, describes the launch as a paradigm shift.
“We are building a new reality with the power of people worldwide. LATIDO® is designed to reshape the audiovisual market, and the XR industry needs to adapt. The change is happening now.”
To facilitate the adoption of this technology, Dragon Elements is initially distributing LATIDO® in “capsules”, making it accessible for developers and early adopters to test and integrate. By placing it directly into the hands of industry pioneers, the company aims to accelerate innovation and cultivate a strong community around its breakthrough technology.
It is worth noting that the MEGAMORPH project has played a pivotal role in the development by SCALE Nanotech and consortium partners of GMOD® technology, the predecessor of LATIDO®. As an EU-funded project, this initiative provided the foundation for the scientific breakthroughs that will enable Dragon Elements to commercialize graphene-based video projection technology. This collaboration highlights the crucial role of European research funding in fostering cutting-edge advancements that bridge the gap between labs and real-world applications.
