Society is experiencing a new revolution driven by virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) technologies, particularly with the emergence of head-mounted displays and head-up displays. Additionally, portable devices such as smartphones or laptops usually suffer from short battery life due to the need to convert electricity into light for displaying images and videos. To address this challenge, the MEGAMORPH project aims to advance VR/AR with the Graphene MODulator (GMOD) technology. The project’s research team will showcase a prototype of this technology at SID Display Week, which will take place in San Jose, California from May 14th to 16th.

According to a recent report, the global display market is on an upward trajectory with a value of $124.1 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $244 billion by 2032. In this regard, Display Week is one of the largest events in the industry as it gathers experts from over 50 countries and receives more than 8,000 attendees who learn, source new technologies, and network through seminars, business conferences, and exhibitions, among others.

During this event, the MEGAMORPH team will showcase its breakthrough technology that exploits the properties of graphene to make displays with ultra-high resolution for AR, VR, and more. They will be at the booth #1740 in the I-Zone.

“Being part of the largest conference in the display technologies industry is an excellent opportunity to present our technology and also to receive feedback from experts and the market. I believe this can help us improve our way to the final round as well as to make contacts that will support us significantly,” pointed out Santiago Cartamil, coordinator of the project.

MEGAMORPH is one of the funded projects under the ATTRACT initiative and is coordinated by SCALE Nanotech, a digital startup from Estonia, in collaboration with CIN-ergy, Graphenea Semiconductor, Morphotonics, SCALE Nanotech and VividQ. It started in the first phase of ATTRACT under the name of “GIMOD”, and it aims to develop evaluation kits for GMOD displays that will offer ultra-high resolution and low power consumption.

If you are planning to attend the SID Display Week, go to the booth and discover more about the project.
