Vereda Granizal is an informal settlement near Medellin, Colombia, where rural migrants settled during the 1990s. Despite expecting a temporary stay, many residents have remained for over 30 years. The community lacks basic services due to the city’s non-recognition, leading residents to independently develop water, energy, and waste management systems. However, the community has abundant access to plastic materials, and the potential of utilizing recycled plastics for community development was recognized. Precious Plastics was identified as a resource, providing machines to upcycle plastic waste into functional objects. AI is leveraged to optimize the production process by minimizing waste and maximizing plastic resources.
